Rhinoplasty surgery is often used to resize the nose, to reshape or reposition the tip of the nose, or to alter the shape/size of the nostrils. Rhinoplasty can be performed to meet aesthetic goals. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems.
During consultation with surgeon, the last will examine and measure patient’s face, take photographs for medical record of the patient and discuss options of nose reshaping.
The surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia, and usually lasts for one or two hours.
During the surgery, incisions are made inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty). Sometimes, tiny, inconspicuous incision is made across the columella, the bit of skin that separates the nostrils (open rhinoplasty). Then the surgeon sculpts the bone and cartilage framework of the nose to achieve the preferred result. Excess bone, cartilage or skin may be removed or repositioned. After the surgery splints and internal tubes will support the nose as it begins to heal, for approximately one week. Most bruising and/or swelling are resolved within two weeks. |
