In Israeli hospital a breakthrough angioplasty procedure was executed for the first time to repair a congenital heart defect. This procedure substitutes for an open heart surgery, which would require the child to be connected to the heart-lung machine. The procedure is intended for children born with defect of the pulmonary valve of the heart. The defect disrupts the flow of the blood from the right ventricle to the lung artery and as a result the heart is overstrained by the effort to maintain the proper blood flow to the body organs and the children get tired easily.
